Newport is a quaint little place to visit if you don’t want to be found. There is a lot of old money here as witnessed by the upkeep of houses when you drive around. Most of the locals tend to head elsewhere for vacations leaving the beaches relatively free and quiet.

Where to stay

The prices skyrocket around Newport so if you want to save money stay near the airport in Warwick. There is a decent Sheraton there that is comfortable enough.

What to do

Ocean Ave is the place to go for scenic views while chilling at Gooseberry Beach. Easton’s Beach is also nearby but it is average and not as appealing so don’t waste your time here. If you want to visit some sights the only place really is The Breakers where you can witness how old people in the past aka the Vanderbilt’s spent some of their money. There are some overpriced shops nearby too with overpriced restaurants. Most people don’t come here to vacation so you will be fine if you are just looking to getaway without wanting to hang out with too many tourists.
